CRIN will be returning to the Tate Modern’s Tate Exchange this year for the Digital Maker Collective’s Uni to Unicorns, a week-long programme exploring the power of technology on present and future generations which will challenge your thinking on digital rights, privacy and surveillance. From Tuesday 3 March - Sunday 8 March 2020, alongside a wide range of exciting partners, CRIN will be taking part in:

Workshops and activities

Future Cities and The Power of Imagination

3 March: 12pm-5pm | 4 March: 12pm-1.45pm & 4pm-5pm |  6 and 7 March: 12pm-5pm

CRIN has partnered with Design with Company and GreenLab to explore how we could change our relationship with nature to protect the planet by designing farming cities of the future. For this activity, which will be run by CRIN, we invite children and adults alike to use one of the most powerful tools in our arsenal to shape how we might live differently: our imaginations, harnessing the power of thinking creatively to live more sustainably.

Welcome to Happyland

3-4 March and 6-8 March: 12pm-5pm

Step into an interactive installation of a not-so-distant dystopian future where surveillance and artificial intelligence are used to read our emotions… Where might this lead?

Human or Non-Human: Storytelling Workshop

3 March: 12pm-1.45pm and 4pm-5pm |  7 March: 12pm-1.45pm

Join us for a fun workshop using gameplay and storytelling to explore the future of artificial intelligence. To reserve your spot, click here.

Interactive Facial Recognition Tool

3 and 6 March: 12pm-5pm

How exactly do facial recognition tools collect and manipulate your data? Come along to demystify these technologies by directly interacting with them and understanding how they work.

Panel Discussions

Ethical use of Children's Data

7 March: 2 pm- 2:45 pm

Join CRIN, DefendDigitalMe, Open Data Institute and the Young Coders Meet-Up in exploring what kind of data is being collected on children, how we can ensure it is handled more ethically and equip children with tools to defend their human rights. Children in the digital age face a high risk of being exploited for their personal information by the State and commercial agencies, and children are less likely than adults to be aware of their legal right to privacy, and the number of ways their data is being collected, used or misused in their daily lives. Reserve your place here.

The Problem with Surveillance and Facial Recognition + Workshops

7 March: 3 pm - 3:45 pm

From harvesting personal data online to monitoring people on the streets of London, the growing use of surveillance poses serious threats to our privacy. Join CRIN, Privacy International and Big Brother Watch to discuss new and emerging threats to our human rights through surveillance - particularly facial recognition, and learn the tactics to exercise your rights and protect your data. Reserve your place here.

After this panel, Privacy International will run two Rights Clinic workshops on “Surveillance Incorporated” where you can learn tactics to exercise your human rights and protect your data. The workshop will take place at 4-5pm.

You can also get involved in a "Choose your own Adventure" workshop exploring a dystopian story set in 2025 London where facial recognition cameras have become a reality, operated by both police and private companies. The workshop will take place at 4-5pm.
