We are in a critical moment for reimagining our democracies. 

This is why we founded the Children and Democracy Network – a global community of practice bringing together practitioners, advocates and researchers working in children's rights, democracy, civic education and intergenerational fairness to learn from one another, amplify others' experiences and increase the momentum to advance children's rights in democracy.

Who we are and how we work together 

Since our launch in March 2026, we have become a (growing!) community of 240 people from 46 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania.

Listening to our network members’ thoughts and ideas on what they would like to get out of being part of this community and what ways they would like to engage, we developed the following ways of working together, explained further in our network roadmap.

  • Network gathering: Every six weeks, we host a whole-network 60–90-minute gathering, focused on spotlighting a different theme and best practices. This will be co-designed and hosted with a member of the network. After each gathering, a summary will be shared with network members.

  • Community marketplace: Every two months, we host a one-hour drop-in marketplace, a participatory format which allows members of the network to ‘host’ a break-out conversation centred around a question they wish to explore. At the end of each session, question ‘hosts’ will be asked to give feedback to the group on what was discussed. 

  • Democracy cupid: A few times a year, we matchmake (by email) members who share similar work themes, questions or practices for shared learning. This is so members can continue to collaborate outside the gatherings. 

  • Community noticeboard and directory: We share semi-regular news updates from the community by email and closed online noticeboard, and collate a directory of members for ease of forming connections.
