Stay-at-home imagination kits

With the spread of Covid-19 keeping many of us and our families at home for extended periods, we’ve put together an assortment of past workshops and activities run by CRIN and partners to help prevent boredom and frustration and instead keep children and adults thinking creatively and critically - as well as entertained and distracted.

Planet Superhero

Choose an environmental issue and create a superhero with superpowers to fix it. Whether it’s to combat deforestation, plastics in our oceans or food waste, this activity encourages children to design outside-of-the-box solutions to some of our most pressing issues.

First presented at the Tate Modern in 2019, this workshop gave rise to the likes of the Recycling Monster, the Multi-headed It, Protesters for Mother Earth, and Farty Girl!

Break to Create

You have 60 seconds to break widely-held assumptions about children and young people. Only by breaking them can we create new understanding of the attitudes that control the lives of under-18s. However, if you have 60 minutes, then dig deeper and identify the ordinary qualities and objects in your life that can turn each of us into a children’s rights activist.

Breaktocreate was launched in 2019 as part of ARTIVISM, the first-ever human rights pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Little Inventors

Draw ingenious and wacky inventions to address some of today’s big problems by exploring the fun activities designed by Little Inventors, a creative education organisation that takes children’s ideas seriously.

Future Cities

Print, cut out and stick down what a farming city of the future might look like. This activity encourages adults and children alike to explore how we could redesign our relationship with nature by thinking creatively in order to live more sustainably.

Future Cities was presented at the Tate Modern in March 2020 as a joint project between CRIN and the Chicago-based architects Design with Company.  Read about it here.
